Origin
Founded in 2017, Corte Vetusto set out to redefine what mezcal could be — one of the very first premium Artesanal and Ancestral mezcals to enter the global stage. From the beginning, we forged a deep connection with Oaxaca, launching alongside two Zapotec maestros whose families have safeguarded mezcal-making traditions for generations. Today, we are proud to still call them our partners, collaborators, and friends.
Our vision is clear: to lead the prestige mezcal category, bringing authenticity and refinement to discerning drinkers worldwide. Every batch of Corte Vetusto is crafted by hand, following time-honored ancestral methods. We distill to proof in small quantities — never adding water, never blending batches — ensuring each expression captures the soul of the agave and the wisdom of tradition.
Since our founding, Corte Vetusto has grown from a pioneering idea into the world’s most awarded mezcal, now enjoyed in over a dozen countries. Rooted in heritage yet driven by ambition, we continue to elevate mezcal to its rightful place among the world’s great spirits.

Our Mezcaleros
Since 2017, Corte Vetusto has proudly entrusted the crafting of our mezcal exclusively to two extraordinary Zapotec maestros: Juan Carlos Díaz and Isidro Damián. Both are multi-generational Mezcaleros whose families have preserved the sacred art of mezcal making for centuries.
While their roots run deep in tradition, their work with Corte Vetusto is more than a craft — it is a partnership built on mutual respect, trust, and family. Together, we share a vision: to honor ancestral methods while bringing the world’s most awarded mezcal to discerning palates across the globe.
Their mastery, dedication, and heritage are inseparable from our journey. Through our long-standing partnership, they have been able to flourish their lands, sustain their families, and pass down this living tradition to their children, who now stand alongside them in the palenque.
At Corte Vetusto, every bottle is more than mezcal — it is the embodiment of generations of wisdom, safeguarded by maestros who remain at the heart of all we do.

Our Sustainable Sourcing
Since 2017, Corte Vetusto has been committed to sustainability that goes far beyond industry standards. Every stage of our production is rooted in responsibility – to the land, the community, and future generations of mezcaleros.
- Agave & Biodiversity: We cultivate agave from our own single-village lands, supported by a nursery that grows from seed to transplant. Our mezcal is farmed with interplanted crops to promote biodiversity, while long-term grower partners leave agave to flower and seed, ensuring regeneration.
- Sustainable Processes: Traditional small-batch methods
are powered by certified reclaimed woods from Oaxaca’s
managed forests, while water is carefully sourced from
boreholes. By-products such as bagasso are dried and
reused as natural fertilizer. - Packaging with Purpose: Every element of our bottle is sustainably and locally sourced. Glass is produced in Mexico by Grupo Pavisa under rigorous environmental policies. Labels use FSC-certified recycled paper, printed in Oaxaca by multi-generational artisans. Corks are supplied by Amorim, globally recognized as the most sustainable cork producer.
From soil to bottle, Corte Vetusto’s mezcal honors the environment while safeguarding the cultural heritage of Oaxaca—ensuring every sip is both exceptional and sustainable.
